Study planner for university and distance learning
Study Planner That Builds Your Schedule Automatically
Sprout Study is a study planner app for university, college and distance-learning students. Add your subjects, hours or credits and exam dates — the planner works out the workload, splits it into tasks and spreads them across your days so that every day is doable. Your exam date never moves; the plan adapts around it.
No credit card. In English, Russian, German and Spanish.
Key points
- Sprout Study calculates your study hours from credits or the curriculum and splits them into 30–60 minute tasks.
- Tasks go onto days within your daily limit, with a review day before every exam; a missed day is re-spread without moving the exam.
- Built for university, part-time and distance students; 10-day free trial, then $4.99 a month or $39.99 a year.
How Sprout Study calculates your study workload
- Takes the hours for each subject from your curriculum — or converts them from credits (1 ECTS = 25–30 hours; US credit hours use about 2 hours of study per credit per week).
- Works out the self-study volume and splits it into 30–60 minute tasks: reading, notes, a test for each section.
- Places tasks day by day within your daily and weekly limits, skipping rest days, vacations and exam days.
- Schedules a review session the day before every exam and warns you when the material does not fit before the deadline.
What the study planner does
- Curriculum import from a file or photo (PDF, XLSX, DOCX, screenshot): subjects, hours, credits and exam types without manual entry
- Automatic workload distribution, working backward from each deadline
- A daily study plan with a task limit — no overload and no empty weeks
- Rebalancing: miss a day and the remaining tasks are re-spread; the exam date stays
- Workload tracking: planned vs. done, progress for every subject, what is at risk before the deadline
- Reminders and a “today” screen that works on your phone
A study schedule, not just a to-do list
A to-do list or a calendar only stores what you typed into it. A study planner answers a different question: how much is left, am I on track, and what should I do today? Sprout Study shows your load week by week, your progress per subject, and says plainly when the workload does not fit the deadlines — and what to do about it: move a date, study subjects in parallel, or add hours. Want to work out the numbers yourself? Try the study hours calculator: hours per credit and per day, no sign-up. New here? Read how Sprout Study works, or browse the study planning blog.
Questions
How is this different from Todoist, TickTick or a spreadsheet?
There you set the volume and the dates by hand, and a missed day becomes an overdue task. Here the volume is calculated from your curriculum, dates are placed for you, and missed work is rebalanced.
Do I have to enter every subject manually?
No. Upload a PDF, a spreadsheet or a screenshot of your curriculum — the app recognises the rows and shows them for review.
Does it work for distance and part-time study?
Yes, that is the main use case: when the university does not set a timetable, the planner keeps a queue of subjects from whatever start date you choose.
How much does it cost?
You start with a 10-day free trial, full access, no credit card required. After that it is a simple monthly or annual plan at a student price. See the pricing page for details.
